Music Video Analysis - Heavy, California by Jungle
-(XL Recordings)
- Setting is in a field amongst a plain of bright green grass and underneath a pale blue sky which seems as if it is due to set. - this setting evokes a sense of freedom and liberation through the wide space and plain open sky.
- The collective artists are dancing to the song rather than conventionally lip syncing - clear the the audience that the band are quirky and hold a different image and style - suited for a group from an independent record label
- They are also dancing in sync connoting uniformity within each other but not the rest of society
- The clothing the artists are wearing have neutral colours and a loose fitting - again evoking a sense of freedom , this could connote that the reject restriction from the world and societies structures
- The song has a smooth , soulful beat - reflective of the group's style and genre of music
- The lyrics and the dance moves coincide and blend together well with the lyrics 'Just hold me' the first dancer who firstly appears solo is joined by two other dancers with the motion of them holding him
- following this the most of the dancing is in sync the the beat , through stepping movements , punching arm movements etc.
cinematography-
- video opens with a pan shot from the open blue sky onto the dancer standing in the middle of a bright green grass field- creating an immediate focus onto him as the central image.
- Through this there shot is a wide angle shot creating an emphasis on the artists surroundings and the setting
Excellent work, Isabel
